{"id":6885,"date":"2019-03-26T09:12:49","date_gmt":"2019-03-26T14:12:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.investorlawyers.com\/?p=6885"},"modified":"2019-03-26T09:12:49","modified_gmt":"2019-03-26T14:12:49","slug":"the-fbi-and-ny-regulators-raid-gpb-capital-holdings-trash-hauling-company","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.investorlawyers.com\/blog\/the-fbi-and-ny-regulators-raid-gpb-capital-holdings-trash-hauling-company\/","title":{"rendered":"The FBI and NY Regulators Raid GPB Capital Holdings\u2019 Trash Hauling Company"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\tJust days after <em>InvestmentNews<\/em> reported that the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fbi.gov\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI)<\/a> is now investigating alternative investment management firm GPB Capital Holdings, <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.propublica.org\/article\/five-star-fbi-and-new-york-city-regulators-search-offices-of-private-trash-hauler\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ProPublica<\/a> <\/em>is reporting that the FBI and regulators from New York City&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www1.nyc.gov\/site\/bic\/index.page\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Business Integrity Commission (BIC)<\/a> have raided the corporate offices of GPB Waste NY, which is the private trash hauling company once known as Five Star Carting that GPB Capital Holdings acquired in 2017. The raid reportedly involved a search warrant from the US Attorney\u2019s Office to gather materials.<\/p>\n<p>Aside from the FBI, GPB Capital Holdings is already under investigation by the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), the New Jersey Bureau of Securities, and Massachusetts Secretary of the Commonwealth William Galvin, who is investigating more than 60 brokerage firms that sold<a href=\"https:\/\/www.investorlawyers.com\/investor-claims\/investments\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> GPB Capital Holdings-related private placements<\/a> to investors. However, public filings submitted to the SEC note that there were about 80 brokerage firms in the US at least authorized to sell investments to clients on behalf of GPB.<\/p>\n<p>GPB Capital Holdings primarily invests in auto dealerships. However, it also purchases private trash hauling companies. NYC\u2019s BIC is responsible for looking into possible misconduct or corruption involving the private trash industry in the city.
