{"id":6945,"date":"2019-04-21T09:16:16","date_gmt":"2019-04-21T14:16:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.investorlawyers.com\/?p=6945"},"modified":"2022-05-17T14:27:29","modified_gmt":"2022-05-17T19:27:29","slug":"lpl-financial-pays-fine-to-texas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.investorlawyers.com\/blog\/lpl-financial-pays-fine-to-texas\/","title":{"rendered":"LPL Financial To Pay $450K Fine to Texas Investors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\tAccording to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssb.texas.gov\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Texas State Securities Board<\/a>, target=&#8221;_blank&#8221; rel=&#8221;noopener noreferrer&#8221;>LPL Financial (LPLA) will pay a $450K fine and buy back unregistered securities. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssb.texas.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/LPL_Order%20No_IC19-CAF-01.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Consent Order<\/a> noted that the settlement is part of the wider $26M one reached between the brokerage firm and state securities regulators in 2018.<\/p>\n<p>In its deal with Texas, LPL agreed to buy back unregistered securities that it sold to investors in the state going as far back as Oct 1, 2006. LPL will pay \u201c3% interest per year on the value of the securities either in damages if they were sold or by repurchasing the investments.\u201d Similar terms were part of the wider agreement offered to all US states and territories regarding how to compensate investors who were sold unregistered stocks and fixed-income securities.<\/p>\n<p>In January, Maryland Attorney General Brian Frosh announced his state\u2019s settlement with LPL, which involved buying back these same types of securities, along with 3% simple interest annually, from investors.
