{"id":7169,"date":"2019-06-07T13:26:36","date_gmt":"2019-06-07T18:26:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.investorlawyers.com\/?p=7169"},"modified":"2019-06-07T13:26:36","modified_gmt":"2019-06-07T18:26:36","slug":"recent-ponzi-frauds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.investorlawyers.com\/blog\/recent-ponzi-frauds\/","title":{"rendered":"Recent Ponzi Fraud Allegedly Targeted College Grads"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\tThe <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sec.gov\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) <\/a>is accusing a recent college graduate of running a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.investorlawyers.com\/?s=ponzi+fraud\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ponzi fraud <\/a>that targeted young investors, including college students and other recent graduates. The regulator announced its emergency action against Syed Arham Arbab, Artis Proficio Capital Management, LLC, and Artis Proficio Capital Investments, LLC this week. It wants an asset freeze, emergency relief, civil penalties, and the repayment of allegedly ill-gotten earnings along with prejudgment interest.<\/p>\n<p>At least eight college students, recent college graduates, or their relatives invested over $269K in the alleged hedge fund fraud. According to the regulator\u2019s complaint, Arbab ran his scam out of a fraternity house close to the University of Georgia campus. He is a recent alumni and is accused of using his college connections to perpetuate his alleged scam.<\/p>\n<p>According to the SEC&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sec.gov\/litigation\/complaints\/2019\/comp-pr2019-84.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">complaint<\/a>, Arbab sold investments in Artis Proficio Capital, a supposed hedge fund, that he touted as making up to 56% returns the year before, and he supposedly guaranteed up to $15K of investor money.
