On February 2, 2026, Inspired Healthcare Capital Holdings, LLC (“Inspired Healthcare”) filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy protection in the Northern District of Texas. Inspired Healthcare filed bankruptcy for itself and 160 of its affiliates and subsidiaries. A Chapter 11 bankruptcy petition is a “business reorganization” procedure, rather than a liquidation procedure. The bankruptcy petitioner uses the process to reorganize its debt obligations and to attempt to work out a plan to emerge as a new company with less debt and able to go forward. Who is Inspired Healthcare?
Inspired Healthcare is a Scottsdale, Arizona, operator of investment entities largely focused on senior living facilities and similar companies and real estate properties that provide healthcare and accommodations to an aging population. Inspired Healthcare operated a number of investment vehicles packaged as Delaware Statutory Trusts (“DSTs”), income funds, development fund and limited partnerships. These investments were sold to the public as stable, income-producing investment,s often with tax advantages. These investments were particularly attractive to investors in need of a 1031 exchange for a property being sold. In truth, these so-called “alternative investments” were often highly leveraged, speculative investments with no transparency or liquidity. Investors were trapped in these investments while having no control over them.
What does the bankruptcy mean to investors like me?
Inspired Healthcare’s bankruptcy filing is very concerning and should alarm most investors. Inspired Healthcare began showing major problems with its various investments in late 2024, seeking bridge loans and other funds to keep operating. Inspired Healthcare then blamed managers of the various investments and halted payments to investors. This resulted in lawsuits being filed. As a matter of law, once bankruptcy is filed, all lawsuits against the party who filed for bankruptcy are stopped. However, that does not stop other lawsuits from going forward, such as against the advisor and firm that sold the investor Inspired Healthcare.
