Northstar Bermuda Loss Attorneys

Chinese Investors File Northstar (Bermuda) Lawsuit For Over $5 Million Against Cetera.

Our Northstar Bermuda Loss Attorneys Represent Foreign Nationals in The US and Abroad Against Broker-Dealers

In our latest Northstar Financial Services (Bermuda) loss lawsuit against Cetera Investment Services, Shepherd Smith Edwards and Kantas (investorlawyers.com) are representing two Chinese citizens, one living in the US and one abroad, in their more than $5M annuity loss claim that was brought in Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) arbitration.

The claimants worked with Cetera broker Doris Lau, whom they met through East West Bank in California. Unfortunately, the financial firm and its registered representative allegedly overconcentrated their money in the now-defunct Northstar (Bermuda) which is owned by North Carolina billionaire Greg Lindberg. The investors are also alleging negligence, due diligence failures, unsuitable investment recommendations, misrepresentations and omissions, failure to supervise, and more.

Non-US citizens are allowed to invest in US securities. Yet instead, Cetera involved these inexperienced investors and a huge portion of their assets in a little-known offshore entity that had been showing signs of possible trouble for some time. Not only that but other offshore options were not as high-risk and better rated than Northstar (Bermuda). The claimants have since suffered serious and devastating investment losses that could and should have been avoided.

Representing Over 100 Annuity Investors Who Lost Money In a Lindberg Insurer

Shepherd Smith Edwards and Kantas are working with more than 100 annuity investors who have suffered serious investment losses not just in Northstar Financial Services (Bermuda), but also in the other insurance companies owned by Greg Lindberg. He was in prison for a time and is now awaiting a retrial on wire fraud and other charges. Lindberg is also now charged with defrauding annuity investors of around  $2B.

Our clients include both US citizens and foreign nationals whose brokers and investment advisers chose to earn high commissions rather than keep their customers’ money safe. Should we decide to work together, you will become part of our unit of annuity loss claims that are represented by our entire firm, which can only benefit your case. Our trusted annuity fraud attorneys are well-versed in the varying strategies needed both in arbitration, mediation, or court to maximize our client’s chances for a full financial recovery.

By this time, the lawyers representing Cetera and the other broker-dealers know we are a formidable securities law firm that they are going to have to contend with over Northstar (Bermuda) time and again. They have no choice but to take each case we represent seriously.

Why Sue Your Broker When Northstar Bermuda Is In Liquidation?

Northstar Financial Services (Bermuda) filed for bankruptcy in 2020 and then went into liquidation. By September 2020, the insurance company was believed to have just $8M in assets while possessing a more than $260M deficit. Meanwhile, Lindberg owes hundreds of millions of dollars to various entities. He also is believed to have channeled funds from his insurance companies to his special-purpose vehicles. Who knows how much, if anything, you can get back from Northstar (Bermuda).

However, in the United States, brokerage firms can be held liable if their erroneous, wrongful, or careless actions contributed to an investor losing money. This is where our annuity fraud attorneys come in.
