Centaurus Financial Broker Named In Multiple Customer Disputes

If you suffered substantial investment losses while Centaurus Financial broker, Katherine Nishnic, was your registered representative, please contact Shepherd Smith Edwards and Kantas, LLP (SSEK Law Firm). We can help you determine whether you have grounds for a broker fraud case. According to her BrokerCheck record, Nishnic is already the subject of at least eight customer disputes

She has been in the industry for 25 years and a Centaurus broker for four years. Previous to that, Nishnic was registered as a broker for JP Turner and before that with GunnAllen Financial, First Allied Securities, DE Frey & Co., Merrill Lynch and Pierce Fenner and Smith.

What Are The Allegations Against Katherine Nishnic?

The customer disputes make numerous allegations against her, including the following:

  • Misrepresentations
  • Unsuitable investments
  • Breach of fiduciary duty

Most of the claims are seeking at least $100K in damages and except for two of the cases, they are all still pending. The Centaurus Financial broker denies all alleged wrongdoing.

Investor Pursues Damages Against Nishnic and Another Centaurus Broker

One of the customer claims were brought by a senior retiree and also names another Centaurus broker, Cindy Chiellini. SSEK Law Firm has been investigating Chiellini, who has over two dozen pending customer disputes on her BrokerCheck record for some time now.

Like Nishnic, she too has been a Centaurus broker for four years and was previously a registered broker with GunnAllen, First Allied, DE Frey, and Merrill Lynch. She also has been a Robinson Humphrey Company broker. Chiellini has 36 years of experience in the securities industry. The majority of the customer disputes filed against her have been in the last few years.

In the retiree’s investor fraud claim against Nishnic and Chiellini, he said that they overconcentrated his IRA in risky, complex, illiquid foreign bonds, structured notes, and non-traded real estate investment trusts (REITs).

He believes that this investing approach was part of a scam that involved selling such products to customers regardless of whether or not they were suitable for them. The claimant is also accusing Centaurus of inadequate supervision of the two brokers, who are based out of the broker-dealer’s Lexington, South Carolina office.
