What Does Versity Investments Do?
Versity Investments/Crew Enterprises manages multifamily properties and student housing located close to certain college campuses. Investors were told that they would make money from rents paid by purchasing indirect ownership in Versity’s Regulation D offerings, which were always risky, non-transparent, and illiquid. They should only have been sold to accredited and sophisticated investors.
Yet it has come to our attention that retail investors, inexperienced investors, and retirees were also sold these Regulation D investments. Already, this would make such sales by the broker unsuitable. Not only that, but many of the Versity investors we have spoken to said they were never fully apprised of the risks. One can only wonder whether the high fees and commissions that financial advisors earned created a conflict of interest that compelled them to sell these investment products even when they were not a proper fit for customers.
Emerson Equity Broker Also Is A Versity Investments Founder
Brian Jensen Nelson, a Versity Investments founder, is also an Emerson Equity broker. His BrokerCheck CRD lists more than a dozen customer disputes filed since 2023. Investors have accused him of breach of fiduciary duty, negligence, elder abuse, unjust enrichment, breach of contract, gross negligence, and more.
Shepherd Smith Edwards and Kantas is representing Versity Investments investors against Emerson Equity in a Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) arbitration.
